Along the railway tracks stretching from Altstetten to Zurich Central Station, there are now numerous disused tracks and former SBB maintenance buildings. These are spacious, open interior and intermediate spaces with great potential for public use.
By reactivating a track and adding a spacious platform to the existing brick façade, the area will be directly accessible from the railway tracks. This measure will slow down traffic throughout the entire railway yard and at the same time relieve the currently heavily congested station square at the main station.
In this way, the characteristic existing buildings could be given a new lease of life and serve as an arrival hall for an up-and-coming urban quarter.
